Mark Orpen

Cape Town born with three brothers, Mark Richard Orpen attended SACS school in Cape Town and later Woodridge near Port Elizabeth where he matriculated. He studied at Port Elizabeth Technikon and attended military service in Kimberly. He has lived in Knysna, East London and now Johannesburg and holds the position chairman of the Institute of People Development (IPD) situated in Carswald, Midrand.

With an undying entrepreneurial spirit, Orpen founded IPD in 2000 to enable the enablers of learning and development. His primary responsibilities include governance, finance, strategy and marketing. Having completed a National Diploma in Marketing and Sales, another in Learning and Development and a National Higher Certificate in Occupationally-Directed Education, Training and Development Practices, Orpen has the skills necessary to execute his duties as CEO of IPD. With a keen desire for knowledge acquisition, he has also completed training courses in International Network Marketing, Commercial Property Investments and various Maritime Studies

Orpen has an impressive employment history, including Berrington Properties, Plascon Paints, BarlowWorld, Palian Racking and Shelving, GNLD International, Congruence Training and serves on the boards of many companies established by Orpen himself; such as Morokolo Safari Lodge, Southern Yachting Holdings, PointXchange, Workplace Skills Solutions, Collaboration Zone and various others. As a result of his vast experiences, he has been a sought after orator and has spoken at over 100 conferences over the last 20 years.

Orpen lists collaboration, innovation, new venture creation and entrepreneurship as his professional passions. He confirms that his goals include creating multiple and sustainable income streams through on-going enterprise development initiatives in the commercial property, education and training, hospitality and tourism sectors. These passions and goals have led to various awards being bestowed upon Orpen, including two National Innovation Awards and a Midrand Chamber of Commerce Best Company Award and being recognised as leading Training Provider of SDF Training, Learning and Development Practitioner Training and Recognition of Prior Learning Process Solution.

As his personal achievements Orpen lists his 19 year marriage to his wife Whinny, as well as the family lifestyle choices that he has made, allowing him to spend quality time with Whinny and their three children, Matthew, Daniel and Jordyn. In his spare time, Orpen enjoys offshore sailing, surfing, safari getaways and forest adventures.

Gizelle McIntyre

With a BA Psychology and Criminology, Honours in Psychology, a N Diploma in Management Development from Damelin for which she received a 'Best Student' award, a Level 6 Postgraduate National Certificate as an Occupationally Based Education Training and Development Practitioner, as well as various further independent and Department of Labour training courses, Gizelle McIntyre is more than qualified to fulfil her role as director at Workplace Skills Solutions t/a The Institute of People Development (IPD). In addition to her duties as director, Gizelle also fulfils the general manager role.

In addition to her impressive academic background, Gizelle has also gained invaluable experience with over 20 years in the people development industry. She worked as a senior career counsellor at the Department of Labour, owned accredited training provider, Assessment Outsourcing, and was the CEO of Nascence Education. She also ran Skilling SA, offering learning and development consulting, for 17 years in concurrence with her previous employment. Gizelle joined IPD in 2010 and was promoted to her current position just one year later. Her current strategy is to build IPD into a best practice, fully self-sustained entity. She is focussed on directing IPD in excellence; strategically and operationally.

As a sought after speaker, Gizelle is often requested to share her knowledge at various seminars and conferences. The most common topics of discussion include learning and development topics, conflict management, performance management and personal development.

With a professional passion to touch the lives of all of those that she comes into contact with in a positive manner, Gizelle strives to improve the lives of those who want to improve their own lives and careers by providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a success. Her professional goals are to maintain a lifestyle business which allows her to do what she is passionate about while continuing to learn in various fields in order to build a broader knowledge-base.

Gizelle was born in Pretoria, but was raised on a farm in Mpumalanga with her brother and sister. She has been married to Allen for 18 years and together they have three beloved daughters; Caitlin, Robynne and Heather. In her spare time Gizelle enjoys spending time with her family and participating in motorbike charity runs. Her personal interests include reading and oil painting. As her greatest personal achievements, Gizelle lists that she gets to do what she loves every day and that she has learnt to balance work and family life.
